D&C New Recruit - Entry routes

There are now four entry routes to join us as a new police constable in Devon & Cornwall.

Simply choose the route that best suits how you prefer to learn, your experiences or qualifications and your interests. Whichever you choose, you’ll be employed as a police officer from day one, mixing learning in a classroom with learning alongside experienced officers policing two of the most beautiful counties.

Your training will set you up with the skills and experience you need to succeed as a police constable, all while earning a competitive salary.

Detective route

Police Constable Entry Programme - PCEP

Must have Level 2 in English & Maths (grade C/4 or higher) & Must have Level 3 (equivalent to 32 UCAS points)

or

18 months service as a PCSO / Call handler / Special Constable or service in one of the other accepted roles*

Diploma in Professional Policing Practice (Level 5)

2 years Start with a salary of £29,907, earn up to £48,231 within seven years of joining Yes Yes

Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship – PCDA

Must have Level 2 in English & Maths (grade C/4 or higher)

&

Must have Level 3 (equivalent to 32 UCAS points) or 18 months service as a PCSO / Call handler / Special Constable

Degree in Professional  Policing Practice (Level 6)

3 years Start with a salary of £29,907, earn up to £48,231 within seven years of joining Yes No

Degree Holder Entry Programme – DHEP

Must have Level 6 Degree in any subject except Professional Policing

Diploma in Professional Policing Practice (Level 6)

2 years Start with a salary of £29,907, earn up to £48,231 within seven years of joining Yes Yes

Professional Policing Degree – PPD

Must have Professional Policing Degree

Initial Police Constable training only – already obtained degree

*Other accepted roles include: Detention Officer (18-month service), Police Staff Investigator (18-month service), Military Personnel (e.g., Army, Navy, RAF) (24-month service, exemplary discharge within the last 5 years), Neighbourhood/Community Wardens (24-month service), Security Professionals - with recognised accreditation (24-month service), Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - (24-month service), Firefighter (24-month service), Prison Custody Officer (24-month service), Border Control and Immigration Enforcement Officer (24-month service), Probation Service Officer (24-month service), Emergency Control Room Dispatcher/Operator - Ambulance or Fire (24-month service). Other Public Service roles may be considered on a case by case basis, please provide details on your application.

We are working in partnership with The University of South Wales to deliver vocational workplace training that will enable you to be become a fully qualified Police Officer while actively supporting your community.
